Proyecto Mariposa
- august 2022
What we did: Created a Spanish-language information HUB for Hispanic residents of Winston-Salem, NC, providing timely updates, resources, alerts, and multimedia content. Funded by ARPA, the initiative was launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and expanded to include health, safety, and community resources.
Impact: More than 600,000 people reached through print, radio, video, and social media. The HUB continues to serve as a vital digital space for rural and urban Spanish-speaking audiences to stay informed and connected.

Hispanic Health & Wellness Campaigns
What we did: Executed a statewide outreach campaign to promote HF-NC’s Health Hotline (Línea de Salud NC), focusing on the Hispanic population in 19 rural counties. The strategy included sponsored content on our website, targeted Facebook ads using geolocation tools, and weekly print ads in Qué Pasa newspaper editions.
Impact: Reached over 1 million users through digital channels, including over 60,000 monthly web impressions and tailored Facebook campaigns in underserved areas. Additionally, we published weekly print placements with a potential reach of 55,000 readers, increasing awareness of Medicaid expansion and health resources.

Charlotte Community Resilience Fund
What we did: With support from the City of Charlotte and Hispanic Federation, we launched a bilingual outreach campaign to close information gaps and increase access to city services among Hispanic residents. We published over 250 articles, maintained a dedicated digital hub, and offered free online courses—particularly in English, digital literacy, and cybersecurity.
Impact:
We directly reached more than 70,000 individuals in Charlotte through print, web, and social media. Our Charlotte content section grew from 18,000 views to over 67,000 in less than a year. More than 250 residents enrolled in our free English classes. By publishing trusted, culturally relevant information, we helped residents better understand their rights, connect with services, and strengthen community resilience.

COVID-19 Latinx Response Grant
What we did: Acción Hispana/Qué Pasa was selected by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) to support the state’s COVID-19 response in Latinx communities. Our role focused on distributing culturally relevant and linguistically accessible information to mitigate the disproportionate impact of the pandemic.
Impact: Reached tens of thousands of Spanish-speaking residents across North Carolina with critical updates on testing, prevention, and state resources. Through printed newspapers, social media, and video content, we helped reduce misinformation, encourage vaccination, and connect families with life-saving services.
