Our duty
Connecting News, Information & Community
Through Qué Pasa Media, Acción Hispana provides trusted Spanish-language journalism and practical information to Hispanic communities across North Carolina.
Each week, we distribute 21,000 free newspapers through our Triangle, Piedmont Triad, and Charlotte editions. Our digital platforms reach audiences across the state, while our Facebook communities connect more than 270,000 followers with local news, public resources, health information, immigration updates, education, and other information they can use in their daily lives.
Our work goes beyond reporting the news. Through journalism, community partnerships, educational initiatives, and projects such as Tierra Viva, we help connect Spanish-speaking residents with information and opportunities that might otherwise be difficult to access.
Whether it’s understanding Medicaid expansion, participating in civic life, or launching a small business, our work bridges the gap between institutions and the Hispanic community”.
Mission & Vision
Mission
To help Hispanic individuals across North Carolina lead better lives by providing trusted news, culturally relevant information, and accessible resources that empower families, strengthen communities, and foster long-term opportunities.
Vision
To ensure that Hispanic individuals in North Carolina are informed, empowered, and equipped to make decisions and take actions that improve their lives — through access to relevant, accurate, and culturally appropriate information across our print and digital platforms.
What moves us
Our Values
The Need
North Carolina is home to more than one million Hispanic residents, a large and growing population that is reshaping communities across the state. This diverse community includes people of many nationalities, education levels, literacy in both English and Spanish, occupations, and immigration statuses.
For many, Spanish is their primary or only language. To fully participate in civic life, access services, and make informed decisions, they need accurate, unbiased, and culturally relevant information they can trust.
Strategy
Acción Hispana fulfills its mission through Qué Pasa, our free, Spanish-language news platform. We publish a weekly print newspaper and daily digital content on our website and social media channels — with no subscription required.
Our content helps readers understand and navigate complex topics such as healthcare, immigration, legislation, labor rights, finances, and more, empowering them to take informed action in their daily lives.

Our Featured Work
Tierra Viva
- Connecting Hispanic farmers with conservation resources
Tierra Viva is an educational initiative developed by Acción Hispana to help Hispanic farmers and agricultural communities access practical, culturally relevant information about conservation and sustainable farming.
Through Spanish-language articles, videos, infographics, interactive resources, and educational materials, Tierra Viva makes complex agricultural and conservation information easier to understand and use.
The project connects farmers with resources related to soil health, water management, forage and pasture, conservation practices, wildlife habitat, and other topics that can strengthen their farms and protect natural resources.
Developed with support from Asekia and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service resources, Tierra Viva combines Acción Hispana’s experience reaching Spanish-speaking communities with digital tools designed for agricultural audiences.
Proyecto Mariposa
- august 2022
What we did: Created a Spanish-language information HUB for Hispanic residents of Winston-Salem, NC, providing timely updates, resources, alerts, and multimedia content. Funded by ARPA, the initiative was launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and expanded to include health, safety, and community resources.
Impact: More than 600,000 people reached through print, radio, video, and social media. The HUB continues to serve as a vital digital space for rural and urban Spanish-speaking audiences to stay informed and connected.
