Last updated: October 22, 2026

Legal

This Privacy Policy explains how Acción Hispana (“Acción Hispana,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you visit accionhispana.org (the “Site”) or contact us through it. By using the Site, you acknowledge the practices described in this policy.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us. When you use our contact forms, subscribe to our communications, or write to us, we collect the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, phone number, the subject and content of your message, and any details about partnerships, advertising, or our programs.

Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, we and our service providers automatically collect certain technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring website, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit. We collect this information through server logs, cookies, and similar technologies, including Google Analytics. See our Cookie Policy for details.

We do not ask for, and ask you not to send us, sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, immigration documents, financial account numbers, or health records through the Site.

2. How we use information
  • To respond to your questions, requests, and partnership or advertising inquiries.
  • To send you newsletters or updates you have asked to receive.
  • To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site and understand how it is used.
  • To report on the reach of our programs to funders in aggregate form that does not identify you.
  • To comply with legal obligations and protect the rights, safety, and property of Acción Hispana, our users, and others.
3. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share personal information only as follows:

  • Service providers that help us run the Site and our communications (for example, website hosting, email delivery, and analytics providers such as Google). They may use the information only to provide services to us.
  • Qué Pasa Media, our Spanish-language news platform, when your inquiry relates to its publications or advertising.
  • Legal and safety reasons, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, subpoena, or court order, or is needed to protect rights, safety, or property.
  • Organizational changes, such as a merger, reorganization, or transfer of assets, subject to this policy.
  • With your consent or at your direction.

We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

4. Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics, to understand how visitors use the Site. Google’s use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings or install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. More information is available in our Cookie Policy.

Do Not Track. Because there is no common industry standard for “Do Not Track” browser signals, the Site does not currently respond to them.

5. Email communications

If you subscribe to our emails, you can unsubscribe at any time by using the “unsubscribe” link in any message or by contacting us. We will honor your request promptly, as required by the federal CAN-SPAM Act. We may still send you messages directly related to a request you made.

6. Your privacy choices and rights

You may ask us to:

  • Confirm whether we hold personal information about you and provide a copy of it;
  • Correct inaccurate personal information;
  • Delete personal information you have provided to us;
  • Stop sending you marketing or fundraising communications.

Residents of certain states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws, may have additional rights under those laws, such as the right to opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising, or profiling. Some of these laws do not apply to nonprofit organizations, but we will consider and respond to all reasonable requests regardless of where you live.

To make a request, contact us at maleman@quepasamedia.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding, and we will respond within 45 days or as otherwise required by applicable law. You may use an authorized agent where permitted by law. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision, and we will respond to your appeal within the time required by law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

7. Children’s privacy

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Data retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, for example to respond to your inquiry, maintain our subscriber list, or meet legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. We then delete or de-identify it.

9. Data security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections to the Site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a security breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law, including the North Carolina Identity Theft Protection Act.

10. Third-party websites and services

The Site links to other websites and services, such as Qué Pasa Media, Tierra Viva, and our social media pages on Facebook and Instagram. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, and we are not responsible for them.

11. Visitors from outside the United States

The Site is operated in the United States. If you access it from another country, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and change the “Last updated” date. If we make material changes, we will provide additional notice where appropriate.
